October 2014 news

Been busy working on a variety of projects. We were recently commissioned to make this little stained glass hanging for a wedding present. The couple it was for love Yorksire, Malham Cove having particular significance for them so I wanted to make it instantly recognisable. I tried to put a lot of detail into the rock face itself whilst keeping the surrounding countryside fairly abstract. It was being given to the couple this weekend so hopefully I’ll be getting some good feedback! By contrast we’ve also been working on a huge window for a house in London which depicts a leaping salmon…more to follow on this soon.

Blog - Window Sunninghil insidel

Arts & Crafts Window

We recently installed this Arts & Crafts style window based on an original in Sunninghill (the original panel is the old one set into the brick wall). The client was very specific that he wanted it to be as near as possible to the original so the design had to be scaled down perfectly to match. We also tried our best to get the colours right and luckily we managed to find some old hammered glass for the centre. The client was very pleased and kindly sent us the main photo which shows the glass off well. We were also very happy with the end piece as it had involved some very intricate lead work and a lot of concentration!

Panels for mobile home

Just thought it would be good to share these pictures of some stained glass we made recently for a lady that lives in a mobile home. The sun’s face is for her living room and adds a lovely warm glow to the room. The Mackintosh style panel is for her bedroom and really echoes her colour scheme nicely. We were able to fit the glass into sealed units which was great as they fit in well with her existing windows as well as being very secure and draft proof. It just goes to show that you can have stained glass pretty much anywhere and add that personal touch.

Beach hut window

As a complete contrast to my previous post this beach hut window, which we completed about a month ago, has a very contemporary feel. These front door panels are in a modern house in Uxbridge where the client has a bit of a ‘watery’ theme running throughout the home. They were very pleased with the bright colours and seaside theme of these windows. I was pleased that they complemented their house so well and it was nice to use some interesting streaky glass to add to the contemporary feel.

Edwardian windows renovation

These are some beautiful Edwardian windows we renovated for a couple in Weybridge. Some of the panels we stripped down and re-built, others needed a couple of on-site repairs and strengthening bars added and some just a re-cement and polish. Here, Michael is just adding the finishing touches to the installation.

Although these windows are completely colourless the different textures are very effective as they catch the light and have a lovely depth to them.
